Reddit announces new in-app dedicated video feed
Reddit has recently announced its latest plans to boost engagement, most notably through leaning into the ever-growing trend of social media video content. The new ‘Watch’ feed which will be added to the app will give users the option to swipe through a feed of exclusively video content, while a ‘Read’ feed will also be included for users who want text-based content only. There will also be updates to the in-app video player to make the user experience smoother.
Why is this important?
While this feature isn’t entirely new to Reddit (after watching a video users could choose to continue to swipe through more), it is giving redditors a more explicit and direct choice in terms of viewing exclusively video content in the same vein of TikTok and Reels. It stands to reason that Reddit would want to align itself to this trend as most other social media sites have also done in the past year or so, especially if their aim is to boost engagement on the app.
