ITV to host a live and televised “Concert for Ukraine”
The two-hour event will take place on the 29th of March. It will feature a “yet-to-be-finalised” lineup of presenters and musicians. The concert will be broadcast across ITV, STV, ITV Hub and STV Player and will also be sponsored by M&S. The Concert for Ukraine show will feature performances from musical artists, as well as short films pointing a lens at the relief efforts being made in Ukraine and the experiences of people affected by the Russian invasion.
Why is this important?
As an industry, we have opportunities to raise awareness and support as best we can those living through a crisis. All ad revenue from across prime-time linear and simulcast, will be donated to the DEC, with ITV saying it expects to raise more than 3 million. All proceeds from the M&S sponsorship will go towards the Disasters Emergency Committee.
Microsoft Advertising Editor rolls out support for Microsoft audience network campaigns
Microsoft announced that the advertising editor has been updated to support Microsoft audience network campaigns. Future features that Microsoft advertising are introducing will add support for more audience network capabilities within ads editor. These will include new ad creation, full ad previews, feed-based campaign creation and image uploading. These updates carry on from Microsoft advertising expanding its audience network over the past year as it continues to grow.
Why is this important?
Previously, it was only possible for advertisers to manage these campaigns via an API or the associated interface. They will now be able to do this through the Microsoft Advertising Editor meaning it will be easier to monitor and tweak their Audience Network campaigns offline as well.
Instagram adds new ‘Moderator’ option for livestreams
The latest Instagram update will allow its creators/streamers to have more control over the moderation of their livestreams, through the ability to assign their own moderators to streams. These moderators will then have the capacity to report comments, turn off comments for specific viewers, and remove viewers from a stream entirely. The addition of this new feature will be hoped to be useful in tackling inappropriate behaviour and harassment sometimes found in the comments of Instagram streams.
Why is this important?
The moderation of live streams can be a difficult area to get right, this is because streams are happening in real-time and therefore it can be difficult to keep up with and appropriately manage the comments, especially in a large stream where there can be a lot of comments coming in quickly. Giving creators the option to delegate moderation powers should allow more proactive management of streams, making it easier to combat harassment quickly and effectively.
Campaign of the Week: Big Issue vendors star in new OOH campaign
A new OOH campaign from Big Issue, in partnership with Outdoor Ocean, has been designed with individual vendors at the forefront. “I’m Here” is currently being piloted in London’s Westfield shopping centre and uses a combination of digital billboards, geolocation tech and GPS beacons in the vendors' jackets. When a vendor is near enough to one of these large digital screens, a super-sized version of them is automatically displayed with a personal message which also points to where they are.
Due to the nature of how Big Issue vendors operate, selling their magazines out in public, the past couple of years have been very difficult. This campaign is designed with this in mind and aims to draw attention to the vendors in a way that’s difficult to ignore.
